Default DMR AEG velocity/MED questions

Hey guys,
I just got my hands on a M14 AEG for a project gun. I'm thinking of turning it into a dedicated DMR type gun.

Now, can I set it up to shoot 400-450 fps (.20) and use 40 ft MEDs like a support gun?
Or will I be limited to 100 ft MEDs due to it shooting >400?

Operating under the assumption that I can run <450 fps @ 40 ft MEDs, would I be required to disable full auto?

I really don't want to worry about 100 ft MEDs. If I can run 400-450 fps and 40 ft MEDs, then I think that's the route I will go. I don't think it would be worth it to lose 50-60 ft due to MEDs just to gain the fps.

But this could lead to issues on the field, and keeping track of 2 different classes of Sniper/DMR guns at events. Might be a bit of a PITA.

Thanks!

From what I recall if it shoots over 400 it is considered a DMR. The 450 limit is restricted to support weapon replicas (M249, RPK, M60). If a standard rifle crosses the 400 with .20 mark it enters the 100ft, single fire only, DMR classification.
Also gaining that 50fps is not going to give you a huge increase in range or accuracy. That is more gained through hop up.

There is no DMR class in the current TASO rules. DMR rules are a paper tiger, for lack of current better term, that is wow-cool, but basically pointless in reality. Literally, we're talking about 15 feet of range difference between the 400fps/.2g and 450fps/.2g energies with the mass of BBs that most people use. Those that choose to use heavier BBs will see an increase in that range between the two energies netting upwards of 20-25 feet of range advantage. The benefit of that versus creating a whole new class and what is discernible range on the field that couldn't be countered by running about 3 steps to close that range delta pretty much sums up why it is a waste of rules text.

Thus, the sniper/DMR rules are one and the same. Any rifle over 1.48J that is not classed as a support weapon by the rules defining a support weapon is restricted to semi-auto and 100ft MED.

That's kinda what I figured.

I'll probably just build it to TASO Rifleman specs and see how it runs.

Thanks!
